Mr. Paulemy Auxerre, affectionately known by many as “Polo,” was born on June 14, 1951, in Anse-à-Veau, Haiti, to the late Pauleus Auxerre and Iforcia Similien. On October 24, 2025, at the age of 74, he peacefully transitioned from this life in Tallahassee, Florida, surrounded by love.
Paulemy’s early life began in Anse-à-Veau, where he spent his formative years before moving to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to begin his life’s journey as a young man. Though his educational opportunities were limited, his determination and intelligence led him to teach himself how to read and write. He often shared that he learned by listening outside an open classroom in his village and borrowing books from a friend in the capital. His dedication to self-improvement became a cornerstone of his life.
He began his career as a tailoring apprentice and eventually became a skilled tailor—his craft taking him from Haiti to Saint Martin, Saint Thomas of the Virgin Islands, and later to the United States in pursuit of a better life for his family. Upon arriving in Orlando, Florida, and later settling in Tallahassee, he worked at Nic’s Toggery in alterations. Over the years, he continued to demonstrate a strong work ethic, also holding positions with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) and Florida State University (FSU), while taking on various entrepreneurial side jobs such as cleaning services.
Paulemy was a man of great resilience, discipline, and compassion—a true provider who took pride in helping others and lifting up those around him. His faith journey was diverse; while not deeply religious, he believed strongly in God and often supported local churches and Christian causes. His moral compass, integrity, and generous heart reflected his spiritual nature. A man of many talents, he found peace in gardening, growing yams, potatoes, breadfruit, oranges, lemons, and more—sharing his harvests with family and friends. He also had a deep love for music, especially old-school Kompa, often saying, “They don’t make music like that anymore.”
Paulemy was known for his wisdom, humor, and heartfelt advice. He often remarked, “If everyone was like me and had my kind of thinking, the world would be a better place.” His life stood as a testament to perseverance, self-reliance, and love for family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Patricia Auxerre; his beloved children Jocelyne Auxerre, Lemite Auxerre, Philippe Auxerre, and Polynice Auxerre; and his cherished grandchildren Asher R. Auxerre, Nayla A. Auxerre, and Amiyah T. Auxerre (children of Philippe); Leila Auxerre (daughter of Lemite); and Kendly St-Fleur (child of Jocelyne).
He is also survived by his loving siblings Cléda Oxer, Obani Oxer, and Daniel Oxer; and remembered with affection by his late brothers Melius Oxer and Elias Oxer. His extended family includes Johane Sainry, Mirelle Sainry, and Judith Sainry (children of Cléda); and Sandra Oxer and Samuel Oxer (children of Obani).
Paulemy “Polo” Auxerre’s life was a beautiful story of perseverance, humility, and love. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his laughter, hard work, and unwavering belief that with faith and effort, one can rise above any circumstance.
