Kurt Edward Henne

Kurt Edward Henne, age 63, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Kurt was born on March 26, 1962, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Carl and Beryl Henne. As part of an Army family, he lived in many places while growing up, eventually putting down roots in Virginia before moving to Tallahassee last year. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Old Dominion University and began what became a 30+ year career as an engineer with the U.S. Navy immediately after graduation.

Kurt will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and generosity. He loved to experiment in the kitchen and was a master of pies and cheesecakes, which he often made for birthdays and holidays. He had an incredible depth of knowledge about seemingly endless—and often obscure—topics. Whenever a question arose, all heads would turn to Kurt instead of Google; he never ceased to amaze us with his recall and curiosity.

Kurt was delightfully goofy and sweet. As a child, he had an adventurous streak—eating dirt, probing electrical sockets with his toddler fingers, getting lost, and somehow always finding a way out of trouble with his puppy-dog eyes. That same spirited energy stayed with him throughout his life, making him a joy to be around.

He is survived by his siblings Laura, Carl, and Carolyn, and by Carl’s children: Connor (Amanda), Tim (Erin), Catherine, and Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Beryl. Kurt loved his family deeply, especially his niece and nephews, who brought him endless pride and laughter.

A private family memorial will be held on New Year’s Day on the beach in North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
