August 5, 1964 – December 10, 2024 Catherine Elaine Rush-Alabi, lovingly known to many as Cathy, transitioned to eternal rest on December 10, 2024. She was born on August 5, 1964, in Leon County, Florida, to the late Lena Mae Lewis and Hurley D. Rush Sr. Catherine was preceded in death by her cherished mother and three beloved siblings, Patricia Hogan, John Johnson, and Derrick Rush. Cathy’s early education was nurtured within the Leon County Public Schools. From an early age, she embraced her faith, becoming a devoted follower of Christ. Throughout her life, she faithfully served at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang joyfully in the Voices of Gethsemane Choir. In her later years, she was a dedicated Missionary, a role she held dear until her health began to decline. Cathy’s life was a beautiful testament to joy, resilience, and love. She cherished spending time with her family and brought boundless energy to every gathering, filling hearts with laughter and smiles. Known for her vibrant and expressive personality, Cathy’s presence was a source of light to all who knew her. She approached life with determination and an unwavering work ethic, contributing her talents to several employers across Tallahassee and proudly co-owning a cleaners on North Monroe Street for several years. Cathy was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a loving sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, and a doting grandmother. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she poured her love generously into their lives. A woman of deep faith, Cathy exemplified the spirit of generosity, always extending her heart and hand to those in need. Her legacy of love and faith lives on in the hearts of those who survive her, including her devoted husband of eighteen years, Kolawole Alabi of Texas; her sons, Jamal Wilson and Vertez House of Tallahassee, FL; her daughter, Valencia Hall of Tallahassee, FL; her treasured grandchildren: Amare Hall, Vertez House III, David Wilson, Aalena Hall, Chauntavia House, Zi’Kyah House, and Jayda House, all of Tallahassee, FL. She is also survived by her Brothers: Melvin Johnson, Michael Lewis (Cynthia), Robert Lewis (Denise), Anthony Triplett of Boston, Hurley Rush Jr. of Maryland, John Rush of Quincy, and Quintin Lewis; her Sisters: Julia McKelvin (Pastor Pedro), Janice Colson (Willie), Lisa Johnson, Sharon Durham, Sandra Meriweather of Ohio, and Vanessa Rush; God siblings: Rev. Ruby Hayes & Isaac Powell and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Catherine Elaine Rush-Alabi’s life was a blessing, and her love will remain etched in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. She will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will endure as a beacon of hope, joy, and faith.
