Catherine G. Henson was born on April 7, 1935, in Decatur County, Georgia, to the late Lewis and Louella Gibson. On December 27, 2024, God called a peaceful and beautiful angel to His heavenly garden. At an early age, Catherine accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined St. Mary’s AME Church in Climax, Georgia. She remained a lifelong, active member of the church, serving faithfully as the church treasurer and as a member of the Renovation and Rededication Committee. Her life was full, rich, and joyful, a testament to her faith and love. Catherine was truly one of God’s angels on Earth, offering comfort, guidance, and nurturing to all who knew her. In her youth, Catherine attended school at Mount Moriah. After graduating, she pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Savannah State University and later a master’s degree from Florida A&M University. Catherine was a dedicated educator who returned to her hometown to teach at Mount Moriah and later retired from Lillian E. Williams School in Attapulgus, Georgia. Catherine was united in holy matrimony to John Wesley Hinson, and together they raised two children, Melissa V. Hinson, and a son, Kermith B. Hinson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Wesley Hinson; her daughter, Melissa V. Hinson; and her siblings, Doris Conigland, Lois Sammons, George Gibson, John Calvin Gibson, Lloyd Gibson, Willie Lee Gibson, and Wilbert Gibson. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Kermith B. Hinson (Beverly) of Newark, Delaware; and her grandchildren, Kermith J.W.M. Hinson, Cardel Herring, Cayden Milton, and Quartes Fuller. Catherine also leaves behind special friends, Sam and Rosetta Love of Quincy, Florida; special cousins, James and Amy McBride; and the loving families of the Hinsons, Gibsons, McBrides, McKnights, and Paramores. Catherine was an active and proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., the Retired Teachers Association of Georgia, and Gracious Living Activities for Soaring Seniors (GLAFSS). Her commitment to service and education reflected her lifelong dedication to uplifting her community. As we celebrate the life of Catherine G. Hinson, we remember her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Her love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
