Carlton Jerome Davis, affectionately known to many as “Red,” peacefully transitioned on December 19, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida. Carlton was born on January 4, 1954, in Midway, Florida, to Curtis and Doris Davis. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Davis Jr. Carlton graduated from Havana Northside High School in 1973 and pursued higher education at Florida A&M University. His passion for food and cooking was evident from a young age. Carlton began his culinary journey working alongside his father, the late Curtis “Junior” Davis, and other family members at the famous El Dorado Restaurant, located in the historic French Town community of Tallahassee. In the mid-1980s, Carlton relocated to Miami, Florida, where he continued to hone his culinary craft. His dedication and talent in the kitchen earned him the reputation of a renowned, legendary, and masterful chef. Carlton’s culinary expertise allowed him to travel across the country, preparing signature dishes that brought joy to many. For years, he thrived in the Miami Beach area, where he became highly respected in the hotel and food industry. After a sudden illness, Carlton returned to his hometown of Midway, Florida. There, he was lovingly cared for by his devoted mother, Doris Davis, and his supportive family. Carlton leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and culinary excellence. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elisabeth Davis; his children, Natalie Davis-Stevens (Samuel) of Houston, TX, Jasmine Davis of Miami, FL, and Carlton Ziv Davis of Miami, FL; his grandsons, Valentino Bellegarde and Jordan Davis of Miami, FL; his siblings, Robin Kilpatrick (Earnest), Lalisa Goldwire (Wesley), Henry Davis, Malcolm Davis, and Alvin Davis (Kim); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his son, Carlton Jerome Davis Jr., and his brothers, Nello Davis and Terry Davis. Carlton’s warmth, creativity, and passion for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
